I learned to dislike Black Friday more than 30 years ago because I had to get up early enough to get ahead of the shoppers and be at the front of the line when the doors opened.
The photo above shows a crowd entering the Lazarus store at Northland Mall when the doors opened on Black Friday, November 26, 1993.
I’m standing on a trash can to elevate myself to show the size of the crowd. I'm using an on-camera flash and a 20mm lens.

It wasn’t my first New York Times front page. Nor my last.
And, not my last Black Friday.
Happy shopping!
