I only made one photo today. My Final Photo for January 3, 2024 is above. This is my preferred crop. The two other choices are below. Each crop is a little wider than the previous, with the bottom including a portion of the Whit’s logo in the frame.
As much as I like Micah, I thought including his full face distracted from the razor knife removing the paint. The composition is also tighter, and his cropped head acts as an anchor to the side of the photo drawing interest back to the scraper and the missing part of Happy. The knife is also just off-center of the middle third of the frame and almost along the rule of thirds line.
The action is also stronger in the tighter crop. The loose crop at the bottom seems static as if Micah is posing. There are also too many conflicting elements in the wider crop. The Whit’s logo, the reflections, the lights inside the store.
