I checked Uptown Westerville Inc.’s website a few days ago, looking for information about tonight’s Uptown Untapped for The Westerville News.
During the search, I was reminded of this photo I made in February of 2006 of retired Westerville police officer David Lilley, center, and retired Westerville firefighter Tom Ullom, right, and David Bruns, another Westerville firefighter, consuming the first beers served at Old Bag of Nail in Uptown Westerville.
A ballot issue in the November 2005 election approved alcohol sales in Westerville, home to the Anti-Saloon League. Alcohol was last served in the city more than 120 years ago.
What caught my interest was the photo accompanying UWI’s story. David and Tom are serving instead of being served at last year’s Uptown Untapped and appear to be very pleased with the task.
A photo gallery of the first alcohol sales in Westerville in more than 120 years is here.
