Double Fun
I met Ava as she was waiting for her ukelele lesson with Gary Puckett.
After her lesson Gary and I agreed that she has too much personality for one person.
I had already recognized that and showed him the double-exposure photo I’d made of her just before she’d begun her lesson.
The fusing of two different photos into one frame offers a narrative of duality and introspection. Editing this photo to grayscale amplifies the emotional gravity, stripping away the distractions of color to focus purely on the subject.
The tintype treatment provides a vintage, almost timeless quality, evoking a sense of nostalgia or the retrieval of a memory. This texture also creates a soft frame, drawing the viewer's eye directly to the central subject.
The clarity and sharpness of the eyes, particularly in the right profile, serve as a focal point, in this case symbolizing Ava’s clarity of vision and insight. The glasses, often a symbol of intellectualism, add to the narrative of depth and perception.
