Drive-By Luck Of A Photographer
“I’d Rather Be Lucky Than Good” Mantra
I went to Hoover Gardens yesterday to see if the greenhouses this year came close to matching the greenhouses from a year ago where I made several good photos that would be markers of the approach of Spring. Photos from last year are in the gallery below.
Saturday, the greenhouses, still recovering from winter's dormancy, were cluttered with detritus of last year's unsold merchandise and a few persistent perennials hoping for buyers this year.
The only firm mark of Spring was a new metal floor rack stocked with an array of vegetable and flower seeds ready for sale, despite the ground still being too cold and wet for planting.
I joked with the staff about tying a yellow ribbon to the front gate when plants for the greenhouse began arriving so I could drive by and not have to stop every day just to learn the truck had not yet arrived. My idea was greeted with laughter but acknowledged that there wouldn’t be any ribbons on the gate.
This afternoon I was searching for a good background to use when a string set of snow flurries moved across the city. When, and if, they happened, I needed to be in place not traveling as the flurries usually last only a few minutes at their strongest intensity. Was headed to Hoover Dam for several possibilities when as I passed Hoover Gardens, I saw the Dickman Farms truck had arrived. Its rear doors were open but I couldn’t tell what was happening as it had backed into the driveway.
