Fields Are Planted
Soybeans In the Ground
Kevin Scott asked me later today to photograph how good the fields looked where he’d just finished planting a crop of soybeans. I wanted to launch the drone, but the weather front moving in from the west rolled in just enough wind to make flying a small aircraft untenable.
Shot this as a six-frame panorama. Combined and edited in Photoshop.
Then I ran ahead of him as he returned the tractor and drill to the barn, wanting to get a photo as he crossed Polaris Parkway on Afrida Road. I was restricted by time and location and wished I’d been further up the road to be able to see more of the highway behind him. Next year.
Ron Edmonds
Learned earlier today of the death of Associated Press photographer Ron Edmonds. Edmonds won the Pulitzer Prize for his photo of the attempted assassination of President Reagan in 1981.
Ron was very easygoing but not someone to toy with when it came time to make the best photos possible. He made all his competitors look like journeymen.
Ron and I worked in different bureaus, but our paths crossed a couple of times. Above is an undated photo of what appears to be a jovial discussion about editing a roll of film at a remote workspace. I'm not sure of the location or event, but it has something to do with skating from the clipping on the wall and the prints on the photo transmitters.
