For The First Time
Start With The Drone
For the first time when I arrived at a spot news scene, I began making photographs with the drone.
The kitchen fire at this home in Blendon Township was extinguished before I arrived. The original call dispatched a full complement of fire equipment from the ladder truck to medics. An engine laid a main hose to the nearest hydrant with smaller hones running from the truck to the house.
I began my photos with the drone as the insurance photo. I would have a photo no matter what transpired as I walked to the fire.
Sometimes the scene has a critical designation and getting close enough for a good photo is difficult with roads and sidewalks closed. Being able to use the drone guaranteed a photo no matter what followed.
I shot the photo as a three-exposure panorama to show the surrounding neighborhood. I had no difficulty getting close to the scene. There are a multitude of photos that are yet to be edited.
