I’ve always been a lucky photographer. This photo proves it.
I stepped out of my office on the ground floor of University Auditorium at the University of Florida with cameras in hand to find an angle from the second-level auditorium entrance to shoot across the street for a peace rally scheduled for the following day across the street on the Plaza of the Americas.
I carried my long glass, a 300mm, f4.5 Nikkor lens, to survey angles and light for the rally.
What I found was a pair of hand-in-hand couples traversing the lawn in front of my office building. I caught them at this perfect moment where their strides matched as they crossed the sidewalk on their way to different destinations with probably different intentions.
I’m always amazed at how random moments, seemingly separated by intent, desire, direction, and purpose, blend themselves into a rare amalgam displaying themselves in the viewfinder of my camera.
The challenge for any photographer is to watch for this blend, the rare instance when an order in the chaos appears in the viewfinder.
