I Thought I Had It Figured Out
Went to the Board of Zoning Appeals tonight for a hearing on agricultural use in a residential neighborhood.
The meeting is held in council chambers in city hall where the lighting is dim and cycles through a variety of colors that can cause havoc with digital sensors.
I knew that so I made the proper adjustments to ISO and shutter speed to prevent any problems.
A quick test exposure to confirm my settings were correct. They were. No color banding.
Then I had the great idea to switch the cameras to silent shutter when the exposure is made electronically instead of mechanically by the normal focal plane shutter. It would be perfect in the near-empty chamber to keep my camera quiet preventing a distraction from the testimony.
I should have checked the result before proceeding.
Every photo from every camera set to the silent shutter has terrible banding as can be seen in the photo above. The banding makes the photos unusable.
I’ve been doing this for a long time and am constantly amazed at how little I know. Another bit of information about digital photography.
