I've Been a Queen Before
It was a delight posing for a photo with Morgan Murchland, Miss Ohio for America, at the Hibbitt Motorsports display at Fourth Friday. She was very accommodating, allowing me to wear her crown as I posed with her.
It wasn’t the first time I’d donned the crown of a beauty queen.
Early in my career, I worked for the University of Florida as its news photographer. It was a great job covering everything at the school. Everything but the medical college which had its own photographer, more well-versed in the peculiarities of photographing things medical.
One of my annual tasks was photographing the homecoming court for distribution to newspapers, especially the hometown newspapers of the court.
As we waited for the court to assemble, specifically the queen to arrive, I volunteered to take her place on the throne.
I was the perfect queen in the late 1960s. I’m still the perfect queen as evidenced in the top photo.
My scepter was the Leica M2 with the 35mm f1.4 Summilux.
