More Cow Bell!
I spent all my time backstage at the SWAGG party band’s Sunday Concert Series performance at the amphitheater bandshell at Alum Creek North.
I wanted a unique experience, a departure from the typical concert coverage at the amphitheater. It was a challenge, with the late afternoon sun mercilessly casting its hot June rays across the sloped grass seating and the small crowd seeking refuge in the shade to avoid the sun and maintain a clear view of the stage without having to shield their eyes.
Last week, I made the classic crowd photo for the amphitheater at the first concert. A family lying in the grass, enjoying the venue and the music.
This week, the crowd’s problem was my problem. Shooting into the sun wasn’t ideal, but shooting backstage, although difficult, was easier.
I meticulously tried a variety of angles, but when the cowbell rang out the opening notes for “Play that funky music white boy,” it was as if the music was translated to “Make that funky photo white boy.” A few minutes later, I was done with the assignment.
