ONPA Clip Winner
One of the things I miss most being retired from The AP is seeing the spectacular work of Ohio newspaper photographers every day. My office received every Ohio AP member newspaper either by carrier delivery each morning or by mail in the afternoon.
Part of my day was spent looking at and reading newspapers looking for good photography and making sure they were distributed to other Ohio newspapers.
I miss that, perhaps most of all.
The Ohio News Photographers Association holds a monthly contest called the Clip Contest. Only published photos are submitted for judging. At the end of the year, the photographer with the most points awarded in general news, spot news, sports action, sports feature, feature, portrait, story/essay, and illustration categories each month is declared the Clip Contest Winner.
This year’s winner is Jeremy Wadsworth of the Blade in Toledo. The announcement is below.
Jeremy Wadsworth of The Blade finished the year strong to repeat as ONPA Clip Photographer of the Year. Wadsworth who was in third place and trailing by 70 points in October earned 504 points in the final two months to claim the title by 312 points.Â
Finishing in second place was Brooke LaValley from The Columbus Dispatch. Rebecca Benson from The Blade came in third.
Wadsworth had wins in all eight categories, 13 of them placed first and had 51 wins over the course of the year, which equalled his win total for the previous year. The bulk of his wins came in the feature and portrait categories.
His winning portfolio can be viewed at the ONPA site.
