Reposted this today on Facebook as a memory that popped up in my feed from 2017. Thought it could use a little explanation.
This is from a trip to San Fransisco for the Democratic National Convention in 1984 when I was an editor at The Associated Press. I don’t know what day this photo was made. Probably before the start of the convention on the day when we had completed all the setup and before the pre-event office party.
At far right is Amy Sancetta, the 1992 Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer who worked at the Columbus Dispatch before joining the AP in 1984.
Next to Amy is Robert Borea, also an AP photographer and Pulitzer winner for his photo included in the 1999 team award. Roberto died in 2004.
Skip Stewart, an AP photo editor from Chicago is third from right. Skip and I spoke every day in the course of my career Columbus about photography, photographers, and being misunderstood Midwesterners.
I still have the short-strapped Domke bag and the Nikon FE2 with the 20mm lens. Also still have the vulture belt buckle.
This is a scanned copy of an original print. Any AP photographer or editor will immediately recognize it as EktaFlex.
I’m not sure where my copy of the selfie is and I don’t know who made this photo.
Still, a good memory.
