Shadowed Days
It’s that time of the year when I’m chasing shadows. When the trees are still bare from winter and the sun moves across the sky at an angle that complements the distinction of early spring.
Elongated shadows stretch dramatically across the landscape. The sun, shifting its angle as the seasons change, casts shadows seemingly artistic or sculptural.
This time of year serves as a reminder of the time between winter and spring when the sun's trajectory, increasingly higher each day, alters how we see the world around us. The bare branches, throw shadows of intricate and skeletal silhouettes. Their quiet complexity is disguised during other times of the year.
This effect, the dynamic interplay of light and dark that can be both captivating and contemplative, will soon disappear as the trees explode with leaves converting the stark silhouettes of spring into shade for picnics and blankets lying on cool grass.
