The oldest Instagram post for the Blue Plate Special Kitchen is dated March 20, 2016. I’m not sure that is the first Blue Plate Special photo I made and posted but it is the first I found doing research for this part of the newsletter.
I’m often asked about The Blue Plate Special Kitchen’s location. It’s my kitchen with only a few exceptions where I’m eating out with friends and the meal looks like it would make a good BPS. I have traveled with a glue gingham napkin just in case although I don’t ever have it when I need it.
Not sure exactly what path this section of the newsletter might take. Hoping to answer some of the questions about the food I’ve prepared, my kitchen and utensils, and photo technique.
The photo above, the most recent, ideally fits the description of the kitchen, “Simple food from one man’s kitchen.”
A croissant, sliced honey ham from the deli, Swiss cheese from the deli, sliced tomatoes (maters), horseradish bread and butter pickles, lettuce, Duke’s mayonnaise, and dark mustard.
I’ll tell you about the background in a future newsletter. It’s part of a longer story on what to add to a photo to make it better.
